On 19th September, we went to the Lendbräukeller in Schwaz to see a special English theatre performance organized by a young international experimental theatre group. It was a modern adaptation of Chekhov’s “The Seagull”.
At the beginning, it was a bit challenging for us because there were so many different characters in the play interpreted by just a handful of actresses and one actor. But we tried to concentrate on the main themes that are dealt with in this play.
At school, we also did a workshop to learn more about the background of Chekhov’s play, which was very ahead of its time. The drama set in the Russian countryside at the end of the 19th century depicts a situation in which all characters are dissatisfied with their lives. Some desire love and success others artistic genius. No one, however, ever seems to attain happiness. Everybody is in love with the wrong person. Isn’t that what many people are experiencing these days?
We found the topic highly relevant for our modern life and society and very intriguing! To sum up, the actor and actresses all did a brilliant job! 😊
